These papers include oaths as Justices of the Peace of William Balmain, Stephen Donovan, William Cox, John Palmer, John Houston, William Broughton, John Palmer, Robert Campbell, Reverend Samuel Marsden, Thomas Thompson, John Mackenzie, James Gordon, Hannibal McArthur, Thomas Kendall, John Thomas Campbell, James Stewardt, Reverend Henry Fulton and Robert Lowe.They also include: a proclamation by Phillip Gidley King granting Reverend Mr Dixon a conditional pardon to fulfil the duties of a Roman Catholic priest*; recognisances of Richard Cheers and M Kearnes as butchers; recognisances of David Bevan, James Larra, Simeon Lord and John Howe as auctioneers; a contemporary copy of Governor Macquarie's commission; public house licenses granted to William Hibbard, James Horres, Joseph Underwood, John Lowrie, John Kennedy and James O'Neil; oaths of office in the Criminal Court of Judge Advocate Wylde; oaths of J T Morisset, Commandant at Newcastle; and, a contemporary copy of Governor Gipp's commission.A full listing of the oaths and recognisances is available.1791-1818, 1836 (5/1157; microfilm copy SR Reel 1929, photocopy COD280). 1 bundle.* This item, with the approval of the Premier, was transmitted to His Eminence Cardinal Gilroy in 1951 by the Prothonotary of the Supreme Court. It was accessible at St. Patrick’s College, Manly (since closed) and is now located at the Veech Library, Catholic Institute of Sydney, 99 Albert Road, Strathfield NSW 2135. (Vide letter from Prothonotary to Mitchell Librarian, 14 Aug 1951 attached to Supreme Court Transfer List (p.100)).
