By the aim of examing the effect of peatland degradation on the community of soil nitrogen fixing bacteria, soil samples was collected along a natural gradient from pristine marshes to moderately-degraded meadows and sandy meadows on the Zoige on theQinghai-Tibet Plateau . In total 30 soil samples were collected from ten sites. The nifH gene, which is the most widely sequenced marker gene used to identify diazotrophs, was amplified and sequenced using a Miseq PE300 platform.
