Priority of Requests State law requires excavators to provide at least two working days advance notice, excluding weekends and holidays, for excavation. These non-emergency requests account for 89% of all locate requests and are indicated by the the Normal ticket priority. Short indicates an emergency in nature with more than four traditional working hours, but less than 2 working days advance notice. Rush indicates an emergency in nature with less than four traditional working hours prior to the start of the excavation. Emergency indicates an excavation that requires a response within two hours.
