Paphiopedilum barbigerum is an orchid endemic to southern China with high ornamental value. However, the number of its wild individuals and populations has drastically decreased due to overcollection, habitat fragmentation, deceptive pollination and difficulties in seed germination. Therefore, to propose a scientific and effective conservation strategy, the genetic diversity, genetic structure and gene flow of the current P. barbigerum population are urgent scientific issues to be clarified.
