Data for 76 presidential elections in Latin America between 1979 and 2002 (expanded dataset for extension published in 2008 includes 93 elections through 2006). Variables include an index of institutional instability plus indicators of runoff electoral system, occurrence of a runoff election, reversion of the electoral outcome in the second round, party system institutionalization, effective number of parties, margin of victory, and timing of the election.
