A tensioning mechanism (15) for a chain saw. A push block (22) is fixed to the head of a tensioning block (16); a pressing plate (24) is fixed to the tail of the tensioning block (16); an elastic member (17) is transversely disposed in the tensioning block (16); one end of the elastic member (17) is fixed to the pressing plate (24); a drive component is disposed on a revolving body (19). A chain saw employing the tensioning mechanism (15) comprises a chain plate (13)， chain teeth (10)， a chain (12)， and a housing (11); the chain teeth (10) are fixedly arranged on the housing (11); the chain plate (13) is movably disposed on the housing (11); the tensioning mechanism (15) is located between the housing (11) and the chain plate (13); the tensioning block (16) is movably disposed on the housing (11); the push block (22) is located between the chain teeth (10) and a side face of the chain plate (13); the other end of the elastic member (17) is movably connected to a limiting hole of the housing (11); the revolving body (19) is rotatably disposed on the housing (11). The tensioning mechanism (15) drives the chain plate (13) to reciprocate， thus the structure is simple， and the problems in the chain saw of short service life， difficulty in maintenance， and difficulty in replacing parts are solved.
