3-D Structure of Soft X-Ray Background along the Galactic Plane

The 3dimensional structure of the Xray emitting hot plasmas along the lines ofsight to make up the observed 0.52 keV Xray background is unknown. The onlyway to unveil the 3D distribution of the soft Xray emitting Galactic hotplasmas is to discover and study Xray shadows cast by dense molecular cloudsat known distances. We have performed such Xray shadow experiments withXMMNewton observations awarded in AO2 cycle, but our data were severelycontaminated by the flaring particle background.
