Helicoverpa moth sequencing was conducted to better understand how structural rearrangements take place in hybrids between H. zea and H. armigera. The genomes were employed in comparative studies between the moths and the HzNV-2 virus to better understand how viral and moth genomes exchange DNA fragments. The genomes were also generated to increase the amount of publicly available data for use in ongoing studies on these important pest species.
