The Australian Animal Disease Genomics Initiative (https://bioplatforms.com/project/australian-animal-disease-genomics-initiative/) addresses the growing threat of animal diseases to agriculture, wildlife, and global health. These challenges are driven by environmental changes, extreme weather, and increased movement of people, livestock, and wildlife, posing risks to food security, trade, and zoonotic disease emergence. The initiative leverages advanced genomics to create a National Animal Disease Genomics Reference Library and an Animal Virome Atlas that together will accelerate the identification and understanding of animal pathogens and parasites and support disease control efforts, including surveillance, diagnostics, and vaccine development. Bioplatforms Australia is enabled by the Commonwealth Government National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).
