Seismic profiles of subsurface stratigraphy in the Mississippi Sound aboard R/V Sound Surveyor, 2018-06-12 to 2018-11-08

Seismic reflection profiles were collected with vessel towed frequency modulated (CHIRP) acoustic source (2-12 kHz) and hydrophone receiver array. Profiles were collected inside the Mississippi Sound between Point Clear, MS, and Gulfport Harbor, MS. Data were recorded in the open-source SEGY file format with integrated navigation data. The data were collected on the R/V Sound Surveyor during the following periods: 2018-06-12 to 2018-06-15, 2018-08-16 to 2018-08-18, and 2018-11-07 to 2018-11-08. Collected profile data were analyzed to trace the unconformable marine isotope stage (MIS) 2 flooding surface between deposited Pleistocene and Holocene sediments in the study area. The resulting data were used to interpret the location of paleo-drainage networks and evaluate their correlation with observed submarine groundwater transport and discharge patterns.
