Sequencing of the genomes of several mutants of the fungus Mucor circinelloides affected in carotenoid biosynthesis

Several mutants of the fungus Mucor circinelloides affected in carotenoid biosynthesis were selected after mutagenesis with N-methyl-N’-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine and ultraviolet light. To identify the genes responsible for the phenotype of the mutants, their genomes were sequenced using SOLiD platform and the sequences mapped to the reference genome to identify base substitutions and indels.
