The fill from a basin-shaped charcoal-stained sediment anomaly exposed in a sand dune
at site 42UN2372 in northeast Utah was examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. A pollen
control also was collected from the modern dune surface. Charcoal from this feature yielded a
radiocarbon age of 3700-3490 BP, suggesting an Archaic occupation. Pollen and macrofloral
samples were examined in an effort to help identify the function of this anomaly, which is believed
to represent the remains of a fire pit.
