Dataset 3: Woodlot Transect Techniques& Data

The data for the laboratory 3,dataset 3 was collected on September 21,2015 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the Danby woodlot on the York University Keele Campus. The temperature remained constant at 20 degree celsius with minimal cloud cover and wind. In order to carry out the experiment, 10 pairs of adult trees were observed and a transect measuring tape was used to obtain the required measurements. The measurements included the diameter at breast height of the trees, the distance between the two trees and the condition of the trees. . All the trees used for this experiment were fully grown trees (at least double the height of the average person) and were randomly chosen for experiment. Finally, depending on factors such as abundance of leafs and amount of breakage of the braches, a number ranging from 0-2 was assigned to each tree, which depicted its condition (0=dead, 1=living, 2= huge canopy).The tape ran from the edge of the woodlot to the centre, and every time there was an adult tree present, the specified measurements were taken for that tree and for the tree next to it.
