Sarcinomyces petricola strain:A95 Genome sequencing and assembly

The rock-inhabiting fungus Knufia petricola is well suited as a model organism for the study of the mineral weathering capacities, extremotolerance and biotic interactions of black fungi in subaerial biofilms. Since the rock-inhabiting lifestyle in Chaetothyriales evolved prior to symbiotic and pathogenic ones, deciphering an ancestral black fungus genome will advance comparative genomics of black fungi. This project aims to create a high-quality reference genome for K. petricola to facilitate its role as a well described and genetically amenable model organism.
