资源简介:
This was part of a thesis project that explored the role of the gut microbiome in the health and preservation of the gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus), a keystone species in South Florida. It investigated how the bacterial diversity within gopher tortoise fecal samples changed over time when exposed to natural environmental factors. The study aimed to fill the gap in microbiome research on reptiles, particularly regarding how these microbial communities can impact conservation efforts. By analyzing the changes in microbiome diversity over a month, the research provided insights into preserving the threatened gopher tortoise species and maintaining healthy ecosystems.
