Staphylococcus aureus isolates collected from dairy cattle quarter milk, cattle skin swabs, farm bulk tank milk and farm worker hand and nasal swabs. Isolates were collected from Vermont dairy farms participating in four observational field studies. The goal of the four studies was to describe the epidemiology of S. aureus on dairy farms in Vermont. Specifically, our goal was describe the diversity and frequency of S. aureus strains on the participating dairy farms. In two of the field studies we also collected isolates from farm worker hand and nasal swabs to describe the diversity and frequency of S. aureus colonization of humans in contact with cattle and milk on 19 farms.
