Gut microbiome study in butterflyfish of Caribbean coral reefs

Here, we examined how differences in habitat drives the the composition and variability of the gut microbiota of the butterflyfish Chaetodon capistratus in Carribean Panama. As coral reefs are undergoing rapid environmental changes, understanding how gut microbiomes of fish respond to such variation and how metabolic functions are impacted is of primary importance in order to evaluate the contribution of microbial associated assemblages in their host survival and resilience to habitat change.
