Improved genome sequencing of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, Rhizophagus irregularis

The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are the most universal symbionts of land plants. AMF colonize plant roots and facilitate the mutual exchange of nutrients via the formation of arbuscules. Here, we present the improved whole-genome sequence of a commercially available model AMF strain R. irregularis DAOM-181602 (=DAOM-197198) isolated from soils in Quebec, Canada (Premier Tech, Canada). Improved genome dataset consists of 210 contigs (N50 = 2.30-Mbp), will facilitate further understanding the molecular basis of obligate biotrophy, life history and the symbiosis with plants.
