DiCE Confirmatory Pilots - Participants Demographic Dataset

This dataset contains participant-level demographic and study allocation information collected during the DiCE Deliverable 4.4 (D4.4) confirmatory pilots conducted in Belgium, Slovenia and Spain. The confirmatory pilots formed part of Work Package 4 of the Digital Health in the Circular Economy project (DiCE) and aimed to test an integrated return ecosystem for small digital health devices, combining electronic pillboxes, motivational strategies, physical collection points equipped with smart collection machines, and postal return options. The dataset includes pseudonymised records of participants involved in the pilot study. Each record contains the participant’s country, assigned motivational strategy condition, participant code, drop-out status, and selected socio-demographic characteristics. These include gender, year of birth, employment status, postal code, educational attainment, household composition, and subjective household income adequacy. The dataset is pseudonymised and does not include direct personal identifiers such as names or contact details. However, because it contains indirect demographic and geographical information, access and use should follow the applicable GDPR and project data management procedures. The dataset was collected to support the analysis of participant profiles and to enable comparison of demographic characteristics across countries and experimental conditions. It can also be linked, through the participant code, to other pilot data concerning return behaviour, preferred return channels, post-questionnaire responses, and the evaluation of motivational strategies. In D4.4, behavioural return data were measured through unique identifiers linked to participants, allowing researchers to track whether and how devices were returned without relying only on self-reported behaviour. The dataset is primarily composed of categorical variables. Country, gender, employment status and household composition are nominal variables, while educational attainment and subjective household income adequacy are ordinal variables. Year of birth is a numerical variable and can be used to calculate participant age or age groups. The drop-out variable indicates whether a participant left the study before completion.
