Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Escherichia coli is a worldwide disseminated pathogen that poses a risk to public health, however, there is a lack of data regarding carbapenem-resistant bacteria, causing disease in marine animals. This is a draft genome of a NDM-1-producing E. coli ST162 infecting a whale (Kogia breviceps) in Brazil. In this context, efforts to track the emergence and dissemination of such life-threatening pathogens in aquatic environments should be given.
