The effects of phoenixin-14 on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis and spawning in green-spotted puffer (Dichotomyctere nigroviridis) Overall design: Pufferfish hypothalami and whole ovaries were compared for gene expression changes 24 hours following intramuscular injections with puffer-specific phoenixin-14 (PNX-14). Six fish were injected with 100 ng/g body weight PNX-14, while a second set were injected with saline (n = 6, control group). All fish were female (approximately 15 g body weight) and exhibited vitellogenic ovaries prior to treatment. Final dataset included six PNX-treated hypothalami (HT group), six control hypothalami (HC), five PNX-treated ovaries (OT), and five control ovaries (OC).
