The study site is located in Western River, Kangaroo Island, South Australia. 3 samples from the top 5cm of soil were collected 6 months post-fire from four burnt dry sclerophyll woodland sites and four burnt adjacent historically grazed pastures sites and 10 months post-fire from four unburnt adjacent dry sclerophyll woodland sites for a total of 36 soil samples. Each site was described by treatment, soil type, longitude and latitude, elevation, aspect, and slope. Furthermore, for each sample, the following soil physicochemical properties were measured: active carbon (mg/kg of soil), pH, electrical conductivity (µS/cm), total carbon (%), total nitrogen (%), carbon to nitrogen ratio, and soil water repellency via the water droplet penetration time (seconds). These traits are provided in this dataset.
