Fecal samples from Fecal Occult Blood Tests of patients suffering from UTIs in a similar timeframe as the sample was taken, were spread on MacConkey agar and the colonies scraped and sequenced. This method allows for targeted metagenomics of personalized pathogen reservoirs. We compared these sequences with whole genome sequencing of UTIs and antibiotic resistance profiles to find predictive associations between microbiome and infection resistance.
