资源简介:
These reports describe measurements of combustion-derived air
pollution particles at South Pole Station and in the McMurdo Dry
Valleys from the period 1997 onwards. Measurements were made
year-round at Pole from February 1997 through December 1999.
Measurements have been made in the Dry Valleys each austral summer
starting [November 2000 - February 2001].
These carbonaceous particles originate primarily from diesel fuel
combustion, aircraft and helicopter exhaust. They may have
deleterious effects on the ecosystem. Deposited black particles
change the albedo of the ice surface. These particles are carriers
for toxic organic compounds also derived from combustion, and those
compounds may affect soil chemistry and microorganisms in the
highly-stressed environment of the Dry Valleys.
These reports are written in narrative style with embedded charts and
tables. These reports do NOT contain large tabulations of raw
numerical data.
