LES CARACTÉRISTIQUES STRUCTURELLES ET FONCTIONNELLES DES PROVERBES

Despite their brevity (usually one sentence), proverbs constitute complete texts. They are communicatively oriented, conceptually conditioned products resulting from the realization of the linguistic system in a given sphere of communication, possessing informational-semantic and pragmatic essence. Proverbs have autosemanticity, i.e., relative independence from the larger text in which they function. This paper examines the structural and functional characteristics of proverbs. Drawing on the contemporary Uzbek linguistic approach to textual genres, it demonstrates that proverbs form a specific class of verbal texts distinguished by a common structural basis and a particular set of linguistic means.
