C14 analysis performed on Williams' birchbark manuscript by John Southon at the University of California as part of a collaboration for the Andrew W. Mellon funded Book and The Silk Roads project. Mary French and Bexx Caswell-Olson from the Northeast Document Conservation Center selected the sample for analysis. These samples were treated with acid-base-acid (1N HCl and 1N NaOH, 75°C) prior to combustion.
