Macrophages play an important role in immunomodulation through the secretion of a various of tropic cytokines in their micro-environmental cue. Regulation of M2 macrophage polarization in vivo can resolve many acute and chronic inflammation related diseases like myocardial infarction, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, autoimmune encephalitis and cancer etc. In our previous results, MERTK+ M2 macrophage expresses high level of MERTK expression and exerts high phagocytosis and anti-inflammatory activity. By the coculture of MERTK+ M2 macrophages with apoptotic cells, resulted the enhancement of efferocytosis on M2C macrophages was tightly associated with their MERTK expression by baicalin induction. Base on this outcomes, we propose the potent of MERTK+ M2 macrophage on both of cellbase and acellular immunotherapy in vivo. In our project, we create inflammation related diseases in mouse model -- atherosclerosis, to testify the therapeutic effect of MERTK+ M2 macrophages through their efferocytosis.
