Comprehensive Genomic Characterization of Winged Bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus)

Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (winged bean) is a nutritionally rich, climate-resilient legume with immense potential for sustainable agriculture in tropical regions. Despite its agronomic and ecological significance, genomic resources for this underutilized crop are scarce. This India-based project aims to generate a comprehensive genomic framework for winged bean, encompassing its nuclear, chloroplast, and mitochondrial genomes. The initiative is part of a broader effort to explore the evolutionary biology, genetic diversity, and breeding potential of winged bean. While the chloroplast genome is currently under review and the nuclear genome manuscript is in preparation, this BioProject includes high-quality mitochondrial genome data. These genomic resources will support comparative analyses within Fabaceae and promote the genetic improvement of winged bean and related legumes for food and nutritional security.
