PISCO UCSB Intertidal Invertebrate Plate Recruiment Data

This metadata record documents the invertebrate recruitment monitoring
study for intertidal habitats conducted by the Partnership for
Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO). The dataset
describes the recruitment of juvenile invertebrate to artificial
substrate at sites along the Central and Southern California
coastline. PVC plates covered with 3M Safety-Walk were used as
standardized settlement substrate to measure the recruitment of
competent larvae independent of the availability and quality of nearby
habitat. These collectors target barnacle recruitment but other
organisms were recorded when present. The main purpose of this study
is to measure spatial and temporal patterns of invertebrate settlement
to understand the effects of oceanography and anthropogenic influence.
