In mammals, organ induction occurs only during embryonic development except for hair follicles (HFs). However, HF-resident epithelial stem cells (HFSCs), which are responsible for repetitive HF regeneration, are not fully characterized. We establish in vitro culture systems that are capable of controlling the ability of HFSCs to regenerate HFs and perform microarray analysis to compare gene expression profile in different culture condition. Hair follicle epithelial cells we isolated from the bulge region of mouse vibrissa. We separated these cells into two groups and cultured them in different condition (NFFSE vs. NFFS). We repeated same experiment 3 times and subjected to the Affymetrix microarrays.
