With an annual rate of decline ranging from 0.5 to 2.0 m, erosion rates of the Saint-Laurent coast are following global trends. The coastal communities of Uashat mak Mani-Utenam are located in the 3 % of Canada's coastline identified as the most vulnerable to sea level rise. Presently, communities targeted by this project do not have development planning tools for their territory that considers coastal geohazards and climate change. The purpose of this project is for Uashat mak Mani-Utenam to adapt to climate change. Specifically, the project will focus on: (1) updating knowledge of shoreline erosion on the territory of Uashat mak Mani Utenam; (2) description of the study site to better understand coastal dynamics; (3) develop coastal hazard maps; (4) updating existing maps; (5) develop and evaluate adaptation scenarios; and (6) develop a preliminary analysis study of flooding in connection with rising sea levels.
