We sampled multiple tissues from adult male and female Protopterus annectens to provide the first comprehensive characterization of the transcriptome of this organism by RNA-sequencing. Lungfish are the closest living extant relatives to tetrapods. For this reason P. annectens represents a key species in the understanding of water to land/air transition.
