Design, photography and social inclusion in the Brazilian heritage

ABSTRACT This paper presents new perspectives around the Brazilian cultural heritage, especially in its passage between the 1970s and 1980s. In this case, photography assumes a decisive role in the organization of new meanings, contributing to other discourses to be organized institutionally. In this case, two aspects are taken into consideration: Firstly, addressing changes in the scope of design, acknowledging that the work of Aloísio Magalhães was essential for a new agenda to arrive from the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional. Centering reflections on the activities of the Centro Nacional de Referência Cultural, a second important issue concerns the acknowledgement of the implemented policy, with the evident role of photography in the formulation of new agendas and speeches. In the end, this article shows a moment of change related to domains that do not directly concern the cultural heritage in this period.
