Huon Island - Restoring the Balance

Friends of Huon Island will undertake this project with the sponsorship of Landcare Tasmania Inc. This project will restore Huon Island by: eradicating rabbits; controlling weeds (such as blackberry); removing marine debris; plant propagation; and revegetating degraded habitats (particluarly for short-tailed shearwaters and pengiuns). Assessments will be made of the Island’s flora, fauna and cultural heritage. The project will work with local schools to develop educational resources and practical activities linked to the curriculum and will involve the South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation in caring for the Island’s natural resources.
