资源简介:
Until recently, there once stood a large monument honoring the founder of Johns Hopkins University in front of Gilman Hall. Originally erected in 1935, the sculptor Hans Schuler depicted Hopkins in a bronze bust above two allegorical figures representing education and medicine. While the university reports the sculpture was moved to private storage in order to protect it amid campus construction, others question whether or not the decision to remove the monument is connected to controversy surrounding newly published research claiming Hopkins was a slave owner. For more information about the monument's removal, see this [Baltimore Sun article](https://www.baltimoresun.com/education/bs-md-johns-hopkins-monument-20210802-20210802-676p4ptky5fn3o57fzrae6yjvq-story.html).
