Polished rice is one of the commonly consumed staple foods across the world and it contains limited nutrients especially zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe). Zn is critical among the essential micronutrients required for human health. Across the world, more than two billion people mostly children, pregnant and lactating women suffer from Zn deficiency. Zn is required for the function of >300 enzymes and >1000 transcription factors and is the second messenger of immune cells in the human body. Rice grain Zn content is a quantitative trait and is dependent on several processes such as uptake from soil, assimilation within the plant and remobilization into the grain.The transcriptomics technology thus understanding thegenetics and molecular mechanism would help in identifying the critical transporter genes to uptake of zinc from soil to roots, translocate to leaves and stem and remobilization to developing grains. Two contrasting grain Zn rice genotypes (Karuppunel landrace with high grain Zn and MTU1010 mega rice genotype with low grain Zn in polished) were grown under Zn sufficient soil and collected the six critical tissues viz., 1st node, inter node between1st and 2nd node, flag sheath, flag leaf, rachis and middle panicle grains with three biological triplicates at 10 days after flowering stage for identifying the differentially expressed genes(DEGs) and their role in Zn translocation
