资源简介:
Langi Kal Kal was a youth training centre established by the Victorian state in 1965. It had previously been a prison for youth and adult offenders. Langi Kal Kal trained boys 17 to 21 years of age. In June 1993, it became an adult prison again. In addition to the standard Youth Training Centre Program, including community service projects and weekend camping, the Centre operated a general purpose farm on its 2700 acre property and supplied farm products to other Departmental institutions. The farm activities and other education and social programs were used to simulate community employment conditions that could provide positive, realistic experiences in the areas of skills training, education and employment. When the Langi Kal Kal youth training centre was closed in March 1993, Malmsbury became Victoria's main Youth Training Centre for 17 to 20 year old offenders. These records depict life at the Langi Kal Kal Youth Training Centre. They were acquired following the closure of Langi Kal Kal as a youth training centre in 1993.The information depicted in this series includes: staff social events, trainee social activities, sports events, outdoor activities, excursions, pictures of homestead, farm and grounds, training and school activities, trainees at work, construction projects, external community activities, event openings, visitors, incidents at Langi Kal Kal and trainees cooking. There are framed photographs in black and white, including descriptions and dates. The other photographs are in colour. Some have brief descriptions; others are not described. They tend to have yearly, rather than specific, dates. There is a photograph album that includes both black and white and colour photographs. The collection includes five copies of pen and ink drawings of the Langi Kal Kal homestead. They include the artists' names. One is dated 1978. It is understood that the artists were Langi Kal Kal Trainees. The newspaper clippings date from 1961. The photographic collection dates from circa 1983.
