VPRS 12656 Notices Published in the Government Gazette

After 1863, the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964) as part of its responsibilities to the Board of Land and Works (VA 744) was responsible for the administration of the Local Government Act 1863. A large number of the Sections of that Act required an Order-in-Council and its subsequent publication in the Government Gazette before action could be taken. These included the constitution and election of municipal bodies and the oversight of the municipalities taking responsibility for roads and bridges within their boundaries.This series consists of extracts of notices as published in the Government Gazette regarding these Orders-in-Council dealing with such things as municipal boundaries and elections and works by municipalities on roads and bridges. These have been pasted into a volume.VPRS 12656/P1 was previously registered as VPRS 1148 unit 2. It was reserialised in 2001 as part of the ARAD Project.
