A search for the first young rotation powered pulsar in the SMC\: IKT 16

We propose an XMMNewton observation for detecting pulsations from the onlyyoung and energetic rotation powered pulsar (RPP) candidate in the SMC\\: IKT 16.Until now, mostly accretion powered pulsars and a few slower and older RPPs areknown. Our candidate is the only confirmed PWN in the SMC with a non thermalcompact source at the center. Detecting pulsars and further characterizing theirperiodicity, pulsed spectrum and spin down power would open a new window in thestudy of RPPs in the SMC and in the population study of this gasrich system truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
