Methanococcus maripaludis OS7 has the iron corrosion ability. Mutant OS7mut1 was spontaneously derived from wild type strain OS7 and lacks the corrosion ability. To identify the gene corresponding to this ability, genome of mutant OS7mut1 was sequenced.
