Viral, Bacterial and Fungal Metagenomic protocol. A rapid metagenomics protocol for the combined detection of RNA viruses, DNA viruses, bacteria and fungi

Clinical metagenomics can be used to detect microorganisms causing infection directly from clinical samples. Depletion of host cells is key to increasing sensitivity and reducing turnaround time (TAT). Several human DNA depletion methods have been previously published for detecting DNA and RNA microorganisms in clinical samples using metagenomics techniques, however these methods only detect either DNA or RNA, or TAT is several days. Thus, we have developed a mechanical-based human DNA depletion method that allows simultaneous detection of RNA and DNA microorganisms, viruses, bacteria and fungi, directly from clinical samples.
