Uropathogenic E. coli (RCV) Genome sequencing and assembly. Escherichia coli UTI89 isolate:Colony variants | breed:prokaryotes | cultivar:Sandeep M

We observed three different matrix-producing variant colonies of Escherichia coli UTI89 population from the biofilm pellicle, when plated on congo red (CR) agar. One among which was a red color variant (RCV), which displayed red dry and rough (RDAR) morphology on CR agar plate. The RDAR morphology is seen when the cells in the colony produces predominant biofilm matrix components like cellulose and curli. The other two variants that were found were called as heterogeneous colony variant (HCV) and white colony variant (WCV). In the study, we performed competition studies between the variants and found that the interactions are context-dependent
