A novel species of Epsilonproteobacteria, Lebetimonas natsushimae HS1857 was isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent at the Noho site in the Mid-Okinawa Trough. The isolate was a moderately thermophilic, strictly anaerobic, chemoautotroph capable of growth using molecular hydrogen as an electron donor, elemental sulfur, nitrate, or selenate as electron acceptors, and carbon dioxide as the sole carbon source. To understand fully the metabolic potential and phylogenetic place of strain HS1857, we performed whole genome analysis.
