Database consist of datasets extracted from published studies (using WebPlotDigitizer (https://automeris.io/WebPlotDigitizer/ ) as well as new dataset acquired for the purpose of the study. Datasets contain both axial and radial growth kinematics were . Data on the effect of soil water potential on maize root tip growth was derived from Sharp et al. (1988). Data on the effect of temperature on maize root tip growth was derived from (Pahlavanian & Silk, 1988). Data on the effect of temperature on Arabodopsis thaliana root tip growth was derived from (Yang et al., 2017). Data on the effect of soil strength on pea root tip growth was derived from (Croser et al., 1999; Kirby & Bengough, 2002). Additional root growth kinematics experiments were also performed on seedlings of tomato , cabbage, and winter wheat at three agarose gel concentration.
