The Conserved Rat-Human BMI Systems Map is a hierarchy of 61 gene systems containing 657 genes. Built from the Conserved Rat-Human BMI Network, this map captures biological processes influenced by BMI-associated genetic variants in humans and rats.  This map was generated via Network Colocalization (NetColoc) of human and rat BMI GWAS results. GWAS hits from each species were mapped to human genes and independently propagated within the Parsimonious Composite Network (PCNet v1.3). Genes in PCNet that were highly proximal to both input sets were selected as the Conserved Rat-Human BMI Network. Hierarchical community detection (HiDeF) was then applied to this network to detect communities of densely interacting genes. The communities were named based on significantly enriched GO: Biological Process terms.  Node size represents the number of genes within a community (min 5, max 642). Node pie charts represent the source of genes within the community as human BMI GWAS hits (light blue), rat BMI GWAS hits (purple), human and rat BMI GWAS hits (dark blue), and network implicated (orange).
