This comparative transcriptomic study examines the differences in the gene expression profile in PBMCs from indigenous Sahiwal and Crossbred (Sahiwal x Holstein Friesian) cattle in response to Infection with virulent Mycobacterium tuberculosis and vaccine stain M. bovis BCG. Overall design: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were collecetd from healthy and tuberculosis negative Sahiwal (Indigenous) and Sahiwal x Holstein Friesian (Crossbred) cattle. PBMCs were infected with M. bovis BCG and M. tuberculosis H37Rv strains, and uninfected PBMCs served as controls. Total RNA was extracted from unstimulated and infected PBMCs and subjected to RNA requencing on the Illumina (NovaSeq 6000) platform.
