Data to support: Molecular-level carbon traits undelie the multi-dimensional fine root economics space

This data includes three files.#66group.csv is 66 species and their clades.#66species.cellulose.lignin.csv is the rawdata of the content of cellulose and hemicellulose, and lignin of fine roots from 66 tropical tree species.#66species.splist.csv is 66 species and their genera and families.#66species.traits.csv is the rawdata of all 13 traits of fine roots from 66 tropical tree species. In brief, the 13 root traits comprise four “classic” economic traits (root diameter, specific root length, root tissue density, and root nitrogen content) and 9 carbon traits, including total root carbon content and 8 molecular-level structural C traits. The molecular-level structural C traits are analyzed via solid-state <sup>13</sup>C NMR and include alkyl C, <i>N-</i>alkyl/methoxy C, <i>O</i>-alkyl C, di-<i>O</i>-alkyl C, aromatic C, <i>O</i>-aromatic C, and carbonyl and carboxyl C, which are restricted within chemical shifts of 0-45, 45-60, 60-95, 95-110, 110-145, 145-165, and 165-210 ppm, respectively, in the <sup>13</sup>C NMR spectra. The relative biochemical molecules are shown in the bottom table. Root structural C trait diversity (H’<sub><em>RSC</em></sub>) is calculated for each species using the Shannon diversity index.#Bergmann.TabS1.csv is the loadings in the global root economics space of Bergmann et al., 2020 (reported in Table S1 of their work).#litrature.data.Series1.csv is the collected data from Fine-Root Ecology Database 3.0. It includes 113 data records (75 species and 5 unknown species): root diameter (mm), cellulose content (%), and hemicellulose content (%).#litrature.data.Series2.csv is the collected data from Fine-Root Ecology Database 3.0. It includes 315 data records (128 species and 62 unknown species): root tissue density (g cm<sup>-</sup><sup>3</sup>; also including the root dry matter content (RDMC) data) and lignin content (%).#Rcode.R is the R code used in this study.
