Microbial communities from the epipelagic, mesopelagic, and bathypelagic along a 300 km transect into the Northeast Pacific Ocean

Microbial communities from the water column (50 to 4000 meters water depth) were sampled along a 300 km transect off the coast of Northern California, USA. DNA was extracted and sequenced with Illumina NovaSeq. Subsequently, metagenomic reads were assembled to perform bulk analyses of microbial community composition/metabolic potential, and to form metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) representing a subset of the bacteria and archaea present in the samples.
