Documentation for the study "The illusory perception of occluded space as empty depends on the occluded area"

The research documentation in this collection belongs to a scientific study investigating the illusion of absence. In this illusion, the space behind an occluder can be perceived as being empty. Data for this on-screen experiment was collected in the laboratory. Participants first saw an occluded scene and then a scene without the occluder, revealing what was hidden behind the occluder. Participants rated two questionnaire statements probing their perception of occluded space in two different presentation modes, presenting occluder and scene stimuli either sequentially or simultaneously.
