In this database (the Global RPE Database v2026.1), we synthesized 639 global RPE observations from 103 plant species (comprising 83 genera and 29 families) with diverse species, phylogenetic, and functional diversity, and 120 mineral soils (49 cropland soils, 39 grassland soils, 19 forest soils and 13 tundra soils) collected from various biomes and climate conditions. This database also covered associated variables of plant (biomass, functional types, functional traits, evolutionary history, and phylogeny), soil properties and experimental settings. This database were compiled to: (i) quantify the overall magnitude of RPE across or within plant functional types, and (ii) determine the regulations of plant, soil, and experimental variables on RPE.
